I have to tell you, when I heard a "Rock N Roll Cupcakes" was opening, I had grand dreams of a retro modern shop with records on the wall and a sexy man with scruff and combat boots serving me cupcakes on a guitar table.  
    When I ventured down La Brea this afternoon I had to smile when I came upon the cupcake version mix of Cabo Cantina and a public pool concession stand. They have a walk up window where they serve hot dogs, sundae's, coffee, cupcakes, and their signature "cupcake sundae".

I scored and tried one of these sundae wonders, "Heath Richards" was his name. It was good ... the whole thing reminded me of going to the dairy dream on the side of the road in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, but I was on Sunset Blvd. with cars zooming past and a view of the Wendy's. Cute & random. Nothing seems to last long in this space but I hope this summer brings tourist craving a sugar buzz to get them through Hollyhood.

With the Roosevelt down the street from my apartment I got the call, shaved my legs, and practically skipped down the street.
To my shock and horror the new rule "that just started today" :::: only hotel guests are allowed to use the chaises' and couches. There is a velvet rope and a huge security guard. REALLY? really.


So off to the W we went to kick it by Drai's pool. As you can see it is not a huge space so our real estate today wasn't the best because it's a first come first get the good chair basis. They do have cabana's for God knows how much.. but in leu of a pool of my own this isn't a special event. This is my new Wednesday afternoon. Thanks Victor. Even though your service was less then up to par, I will take your house of pool, sun, and overpriced cocktails. Any liquid taste good in the sun.

My advice - get there early for a good seat. 

Off to celebrate my sister's birthday brunch we went. Up the street and through the new W Hotel to the French eatery, Delphine.

We left saying it was the best brunch we had ever had. Starting with the "le petit delphine" and fresh peach puree bellini's, you can see the seafood platter was not that petit ( we thought we had ordered the large!) It was also my first run in with escargot, not bad. We then went on to have the Onion Soup Gratinee, Steak Tartare, and Macaroni Gratin. It was perfect, the space is bright and clean, and it was an excellent place for a special day. I am looking forward to going back. The staff even brought out sparklers in rich chocolate cake for her birthday. Merveilleux!

With the movie coming up ( that I cannot wait to see! ) It is only fitting that we finally went to Wonderland. We did bottle service with a new vodka that is hitting the scene called AKVINTA. After a few cocktails with soda and lime, I was expecting to wake and feel like I tumbled down a rabbit hole (yeah, I said it). Thank you AKVINTA for being organic and 5 times filtered. I arose refreshed like a little tea party princess. We sat next to a faux green wall, but saw no Queen of Hearts. It has the crowd, but nothing so spectacular that makes it any different from any other hot spot raking the $$'s in bottle service right now. I wish they would have taken it to the next level in some way, I would have loved to have seen a special potion bottle or a card dealer, even a bartender in a top hat. Call me crazy, but I like a show. I had a good time though. If you want to be in the it scene, go soon. Before it's too late. How do you get there? This past NFL Sunday we ventured out for football food and football drinks. Stout seemed like the right choice. They have a cool, laid back interior, a big selection of beer on tap, with burgers and chicken sandwiches on the menu. Unfortunately it was the WRONG choice. The manager condescendingly told us he would not turn on the volume of the TV's because they were not a sports bar. ( Then why the heck do you have TV's in your bar? ) The burger was a greasy frozen patty that crumbled when I tried to take bites of its soppy bun. The chicken was the same frozen patty quality. To top it off, after explaining to our waitress that we did not have a good experience, nothing was done to remedy this situation. No manager apology, nothing taken off our bill. Which isn't the point, but for $8 a pop, the beer cups reminded me of a tea party I used to have years and years ago. SO unfortunate. I do respect their beer pairing concept, which I think is great. Not great enough for me to go back.

You want sushi in LA? We boast the three K's: Katsuya, Katana, and Koi. Take your pick of the three, and you will have ambiance, a good roll, and a pricey bill. It pains me to say, because Katsuya has become the quintessential trend bot of the boulevard, but it is my favorite of the three roll wise. Katana wins my vote for ambiance with its outdoor deck patio overlooking the sunset strip and good service. Koi boasts both ambiance and good rolls but they do not have great service ( having to ask for refills every single time is brutal to me )

I know I am including a large scope of sushi, but if you are looking for a lower price point and less of a scene head to SHINTARO which would be my #1 recommendation ( and a lot of other people's..) if you don't feel like wearing your heels to dinner.

PP is one block away from my apartment and I am addicted to Thai. Lucky for me PP is amazing, delivers, and makes a mean coconut soup ( TOM KHA ) AND you get free egg rolls if you order online. When my boyfriend, Alex and I, first started dating this became a place we frequented. Close to home, good breakfast, and a great manager who we adore, The Waffle still keeps us coming back (around two times a week...)
